Our Mission in Logistics for a Sustainable Future

ITOCHU LOGISTICS CORP., as the core logistics company of the ITOCHU Group, has embodied a variety of initiatives that leverage the strengths of having one of the biggest trading companies in Japan (ITOCHU Corporation) as our parent company, in today's unpredictable circumstances. The Great East Japan Earthquake underscored how essential logistics is to society and to people’s daily lives. Since then, we have used our experiences and the agility to respond swiftly and flexibly to meet the expectations of our stakeholders.

During the global COVID-19 pandemic, our teams continued operations at the frontline while taking the utmost care to prevent infection. We are proud of this achievement and grounded in our clear sense of mission: to keep vital goods moving, safeguard livelihoods, and support a sustainable future.

Today, we recognize more strongly than ever the role of logistics in building a sustainable society. We focus on four priority sectors—automotive, consumer goods, food, and pharmaceuticals—and continue to expand our contribution, both in Japan and overseas, through our extensive network and services. Guided by our management philosophy of "Sampo Yoshi" —Contributing to society and satisfying our stakeholders through logistics operations—, we remain committed to the belief that, in any environment, a company’s growth is grounded in stakeholder trust. We will continue to fulfill the mission of logistics and contribute to building a sustainable future.

Walking with Our Customers into the Next Decade

ITOCHU LOGISTICS Corp. promotes environmentally responsible logistics. Through the efficient use of limited resources, reduction of industrial waste, water conservation, decarbonization via solar power installations across our sites in Japan, and strict compliance, we aim to achieve coexistence with society.

Climate Action and
GHG Reduction
  •  Introduction of renewable energy
We are actively installing solar panels at the Matsudo Center, Higashi‑Osaka Center, Nagoya Center, Hirakata Center, and Yawata Center, effectively utilizing clean energy to reduce GHG emissions. We also promote energy efficiency by adopting LED lighting, automatic shut‑off systems, and ensuring lights are turned off when not in use.
  • Fuel and energy improvements
We are optimizing energy consumption by switching temperature‑controlled freezer units from water‑cooled to air‑cooled systems to reduce water usage, and by introducing power transfer panels for HVAC equipment, AGVs (automated guided vehicles), and picking carts.
  • Introduction of EVs and hybrids
We proactively adopt energy-efficient vehicles and equipment, including battery-powered forklifts.

Transport Efficiency
  • White Logistics Initiative (Pharmaceutical Logistics Department)
We have expanded our network by adding a Hokkaido hub to our existing East–West structure, shortening delivery lead times from Hokkaido. We also streamlined handovers to contract carriers by simplifying advance notifications and reducing long‑haul transport, improving overall logistics efficiency. These shorter transit times have strengthened our business continuity planning (BCP) framework, enabling flexible, rapid responses to emergencies, natural disasters, and sudden surges in demand.
  • Route optimization and modal shift (Food Business Dept., Machinery & Automotive Dept., ITOCHU Freight Forwarding Agent (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.)
To address the social challenge of driver shortages, we are progressively implementing a modal shift from truck to rail transport. Until recently, we moved raw materials nationwide using more than 300 truckloads per year; by utilizing rail, we significantly reduce driver working hours, reduce CO₂ emissions, enhance safety, and improve overall network reliability. Internationally, we also operate rail transport across the Eurasian continent in collaboration with national railway authorities.

Circular Use of Resources
  • Resource circulation
We sort corrugated cardboard and packing materials for recycling, and promote the use of recycled plastic pallets and reusable containers (folding totes and poly boxes) to reduce waste and conserve resources.

  • Quality management initiatives
We have obtained ISO 9001 (Quality) certification and established systems to enhance service quality, including formulating a quality policy, strengthening management frameworks, and compiling and analyzing incident reports. For pharmaceutical transport, we hold CEIV Pharma certification at Narita and Kansai International Airports.
